Climate Justice

At St Mary’s Primary, we empower students to take meaningful action for the planet. Our Eco Warriors lead the way in promoting sustainable practices across the school, from turning off lights to save energy, to organising Walk2School Wednesdays to encourage children to travel in energy-efficient ways. Through initiatives like PickerPals, children actively care for their environment by collecting litter around the school. They campaign to reduce single-use plastics and lead creative projects, such as reusing bottles to make wind chimes for our school grounds during Recycling Week. We were also part of the HoneyBee Programme, where one year group visited an apiary to open a hive and learn firsthand about these vital pollinators, and we had bee-pollinating plants planted across our school. Students also contributed to a Climate Action Summit video and engaged with Councilor Jake Rubin, Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Community Power, to explore ways they can make a real difference.
