Outdoor Learning and Curriculum
At St Mary’s Primary, we value outdoor learning as a vital part of our curriculum, connecting children directly with nature and the world around them. Through the Our Schools, Our World programme and our focus on greening the curriculum, we nurture young people as informed and responsible global citizens—ecologically, economically, culturally, and spiritually.
Our outdoor and greening initiatives enable students to learn effectively about sustainability, climate change, biodiversity, and other environmental issues, embedding ecological awareness across subjects. Children develop the knowledge, skills, and creativity needed to address local and global challenges, and are encouraged to see themselves as changemakers—taking part in initiatives that foster hope and positive action for the planet, while observing their schools as sustainable, socially engaged communities.
By engaging regularly with nature and experiencing a curriculum that integrates environmental learning across subjects, students at St Mary’s develop a deep connection to the natural world, a sense of responsibility, and the confidence to influence their wider communities. Outdoor learning and the greening of the curriculum inspire, inform, and motivate pupils to make meaningful contributions to a sustainable future.
